The process of setting up a crypto wallet can seem daunting for anyone new to investing in cryptocurrency and yet it is a vital part to storing your coins and tokens securely. In addition, there are many tokens that can only be bought through a wallet which we will go into later. There are many different wallets to choose from but some of the more popular are Coinbase Wallet, Metamask, and Trust Wallet. On this page, we will go through setting up a Coinbase Wallet, but the process will be similar for the other wallets as well.
The first step you will need to take is to download two separate apps on your smartphone. These apps are Coinbase and Coinbase Wallet. (Remember these are two separate and distinct apps you will need to download. The Coinbase app will be used for buying larger cryptocurrencies and will also be used to fund your Coinbase Wallet. Your Coinbase Wallet will be used to store tokens and buy lesser known and newer to the market tokens such as our own Brewery Token)
In regards to the Coinbase app, you will follow the prompts for setting it up. It will ask you to verify yourself by submitting a photo of both the front and back of your license so have it ready. Then you will have a few different options for buying cryptocurrency, one of which is ethereum which is necessary for buying the smaller tokens within your wallet. These options will be to link your bank account (however this can take a week for funds to clear), wire transfers from your bank (only recommended if your looking to buy over 25-30k worth), and then PayPal and ApplePay, both of which have lower limits per day depending on your bank but the funds from which are available immediately. (I personally use ApplePay) There will be a video posted on the process soon.
To buy crypto on Coinbase once you have it set up, you will go to the bottom bar and click on the trade icon. Just for an example, you can scroll down, find ethereum (which should be right below Bitcoin) and click on it. It will bring you to a new page with a chart and at the bottom a large blue button that says Trade on it. Click on the blue button and then select Buy ETH with cash. On the next screen you will simply type in the amount you want to buy, select the method below the dollar amount (by clicking on the method, it will give you options to pay for it). Once you put in a dollar amount, you will click the Preview Buy button, view the info, and click Buy Now at the bottom. Thats it! Within a few minutes, it will show the ethereum you bought in your Assets, which if you go back to the home screen, is the button at the bottom right next to the Trade button you clicked on originally. You have now bought your first cryptocurrency and the ethereum you bought will be used to buy our Brewery Token later on.
Next you will want to setup your Coinbase Wallet. For this you will follow the prompts as you did for Coinbase, however you will probably not be asked for your license. However, there is a very important step in setting up your wallet that you will NOT want to bypass and that regards your seed phrase or 12 word passcode. These 12 words, in order, are your key to accessing your Wallet should you have to log out or get logged out. At the point where you are given these 12 words, I would print off multiple copies of it, put one in a safe somewhere and sprinkle the others throughout your house in secure locations (there have been instances where people have not recorded this phrase, gotten logged out, and have lost everything they have in the wallet. Only you can access your wallet with this pass phrase.) Once you have recorded this pass phrase, you should be all done setting up the wallet. Now comes the slightly tricky part of trasferring your ethereum you bought on Coinbase into your Coinbase Wallet.
On the main screen in your Coinbase Wallet you have the value at the top (which will be $0 originally) and below that three buttons that say Send, Receive, and Trade. Click on the Receive button which will bring you to a new screen. On that new screen, click on Ethereum, which will bring you to yet another screen. On this screen you will be presented with a QR code and beneath that a string of letters and numbers. This string of letters and numbers is your Wallet address. If you place your finger on the Wallet Address and hold, it will say “Address Copied”. Once this is done, you will then exit the app and go to the Coinbase app. Once you are back in the Coinbase app, you will click on your Assets at the bottom and once on that page, click on ethereum. Once on the new page, scroll down slightly and right below the chart you will see ethereum with the amount that you own. Click on this button and it will bring you to a new page. On the next page, at the top right hand corner, you will see what looks like an arrow or airplane pointing to the right. Click on this little icon. The next page will look similar to the one you used to buy the ethereum in the first place. Enter the amount you want to send to your wallet minus about $25-30 to cover any fees for sending it. Once you enter the amount, click continue on the bottom. At the top on the next page, there will be a bar that says “phone, email, address, or ENS. Here is where you will past the address you copied from your wallet. Double check to make sure the last 3-5 digits and letters match your address in your wallet. After you have verified it, click the Preview Send button. Verify the info and hit the Send Now button. After you hit, within 5-10 minutes, you will see your ethereum in your wallet.
